Interprint Opens New Factory in the USA
One of the most technologically advanced factories of the North American decor printing industry was built at the Interprint location in Pittsfield – Interprint International remains on growth track
Arnsberg/Pittsfield. The new Interprint factory in the USA was inaugurated with 300 guests on 7 June 2006. With the opening of the Pittsfield (Massachusetts) site, Interprint Inc., the American subsidiary of the Interprint group has a modern office and production complex with a useable floor space of 12,600 square metres. The 24 million dollar project is the largest individual investment of both the Interprint group and the North American decor printing industry. Interprint Inc. intends to further expand its leading market position through efficient manufacturing processes and high-level customer service.
The rapid growth of Interprint Inc. made the new building and thus the relocation from the previous site, eleven kilometres away, necessary. Two years of logistical top performance passed between construction start in May 2004 and the inauguration in June 2006. The relocation took place without any production interruption in order to provide Interprint customers with consistent quality and customer service.
Five production machines, one of which is a new press with a printing width of 2.70 metres, and three laboratory machines have been put into operation in the production hall which encompasses more than 10,000 square metres. The new printing machine designed for special sizes in the kitchen cabinet industry is the first of its type in North America. An automated cylinder store and a modern cylinder chrome-plating facility ensure efficient workflows. The two-storey office wing accommodates Administration, Sales, Management and a design studio in a generous space of almost 1,900 square metres. Interprint Inc. still has sufficient expansion possibilities on the 32-hectare plot.
“My wildest dreams have come true,“said William M. Hines Sr., President and CEO of Interprint Inc. during his speech. He thanked the customers and suppliers, the local representatives of Pittsfield, Wrede Industrieholding and the Management of Interprint International for their support. He especially paid tribute to the employees of Interprint Inc.: “The real key to making this dream come true were and still are our employees – the Interprint family.“ Hines emphasised that the company was oriented to long-term growth. Highest quality, design and service standards are “indisputable core values for this objective. While this basis ensures reliability and continuity”, according to Hines, “the pursuit of progress encourages change, improvement and progress – as the new production site demonstrates.“
“With Pittsfield II, Interprint Inc. makes an important step into the future,“ said Interprint’s Managing Director, Klaus-Dieter Mayer. In his speech, he praised the brilliantly mastered relocation phase during which the customers were served with the same quality and service levels. It is the right time for being proud. This certainly applies to our shareholders, i.e. Wrede Industrieholding, but also to the entire Interprint group and, here in Pittsfield to the Management, all employees and all companies involved.“ On this occasion, Mayer informed all present about his decision to “respectably introduce the future, in order to make room for new management and to slow down in all modesty because of his age”. Michael Nitz joined top management and will be the successor of Klaus-Dieter Mayer, who will take an advisory role in the company from 2007.
Michael Nitz also made a speech to the guests in Pittsfield and congratulated Interprint Inc. on a new production site which is unequalled in the North American decor printing industry. The new Managing Director said that he was very pleased to share his international experience for Interprint’s further progress. “Design and high-tech are our future,” summarised Michael Nitz and announced that he would use his energy for continued growth and a secure future position of the company.
Interprint’s Managing Director, Holger Dzeia, was also pleased to “properly celebrate a milestone in Interprint’s history”. He reminded everyone that Interprint was the first company to commit itself to the American market: “Interprint Inc. was founded in 1983 and the first printing machine in North America was put into operation at the Pittsfield location in 1989.” Today, Interprint Inc. is unchallenged market leader in the USA. Dzeia again pointed out the principle “Think global, act local“. “In the USA, we have always been an American company which not only recognised the special market needs but also specifically addressed the needs and had a formative influence on the market.” As a worldwide partner, Interprint operates in different culture areas and regards globalisation as an opportunity, challenge and enrichment in every respect.
