A Matter of Perspective at the ZOW
Taking a new point of view, changing the line of thought, is what Interprint will demonstrate at the ZOW 2010, where the company will again present in a creative way its new developments, which can be seen from different perspectives.
It pays to question things and look at them from a different perspective; the view then becomes unobstructed and new possibilities can be seen. And perhaps something can be seen that you have always looked for. ‘A Matter of Perspective’ is the theme of the Interprint exhibition at the ZOW 2010. The exhibition will not just give many specific views of Interprint’s latest developments, it will also allow a multilayer view of its décors from different perspectives.
The exhibition is formed by curved walls with single-colour metallic surfaces that, together with décor boards, produce an exciting installation. Overlapping and interleaving produce spatial effects with light and shadows. Whether from a distance or close up, different perspectives will push the viewer to find his own point of view. The focal points of the innovations are light wood designs, often with a modern, grey-green touch of colour. The ‘Roxy’ décor, which celebrates its premiere at the ZOW, promises to be a winner.
Technical innovations also allow new perspectives of interior design. Digital printing, for example, allows a quick production of small quantities in premium quality. Interprint will install a webshop on its Internet site for this purpose. This will offer digital printing solutions in CMYK and rotogravure colour range on special Interprint paper.
A further contributor to the brilliant ZOW presentation is the ‘Concept.F’ foil collection, which distinguishes itself by glossy surface effects. The latest innovations in the high-gloss look will also be among the eye catchers on the exhibition stand.
Changing the point of view and being open for a change is the direct result of a process that Interprint has been undergoing for years. Driven by its ‘Fast Forward’ design philosophy, the company sets new standards in decorative surfaces and works with its partners to find answers to questions that have previously not been asked. This process inspires all participants to adopt new approaches, results in sustainable solutions and allows all parties to progress – fast forward. It is this creative impetus that has made Interprint the inspiration for designers, furniture manufacturers, architects and shop outfitters.
The ‘A Matter of Perspective’ booklet available at the ZOW also describes how many facets the ‘change in perspective’ topic has at Interprint. Exciting examples show how Interprint continuously thinks in new directions and keeps moving.
A Banana as Art Metaphor
In 1986, the artist Thomas Baumgärtel started spraying the picture of a banana on the facades of museums and galleries under the cover of darkness. Although initially criminally prosecuted and even arrested, he continued to expand his activities. Today, about 5,000 banana graffiti mark locations selected by him can be seen in Germany, Europe and overseas. The public’s initial rejection turned into approval over the years. Gallery owners did not ask Thomas Baumgärtel to spray bananas only on their facades, the bananas also found their way into galleries and museums – they were regarded as being works of art. In December 2009, the ‘brand eins’ business magazine titled its magazine edition on art with a banana and described the history of the artist, whose yellow graffiti has become an ‘art metaphor’ and the ‘unofficial logo of the art scene’.
This story inspired Interprint to develop its main visual for the ZOW 2010: Is it graffiti or art? Is it decorative paper or the perfection of a furniture design? It is a matter of perspective. The willingness to see things differently is the prerequisite for innovation.
