Interprint USA breaks ground for new manufacturing facility in Pittsfield
Laser engraving line will be installed in the new facility by the end of 2008 – Investment solidifies Interprint’s global leadership in technology in the decorative paper printing market
‘Green light’ for the expansion of Interprint USA manufacturing facilities in Pittsfield, Massachusetts: on July 11th 2008, Managing Directors Jens Bauer and William M. Hines, Jr. together with Pittsfield mayor James Ruberto broke ground for the new facility. The 18,000 square foot addition will accommodate a state-of-the-art laser engraving equipment for printing cylinders.
“We moved in less than two years ago and we’ve already reached maximum capacity, so this new construction is necessary to support our continued growth as well,” said Managing Director Jens Bauer. The total cost for the expansion and new equipment is estimated to be US-$ 7 million. Once the laser engraving line is brought online, Interprint USA will become the first North American décor printer with the ability to laser engrave printing cylinders in-house.
Laser engraving technology will afford Interprint customers many advantages. The system generates a laser beam that reproduces complex designs and patterns onto a cylinder’s surface with a greater fidelity than possible using mechanical technologies. “This capability will allow us to propel our product into the future,” said Managing Director William M. Hines, Jr.
“The bottom line is a laser-engraved cylinder can print a much wider tonal range, yielding greater dimensionality and realism, sharper contrasts and smoother gradients” said Hines. “Laser engraving will allow our designers to experiment and push the envelope of their creativity.” Bauer added, “This also enables us precisely re-engrave a design years into the future. We’re simultaneously improving the quality of our product while reducing the time it takes to bring it to market.”
Successful results are already achieved by the in-house laser engraving system at Interprint headquarters in Arnsberg (Germany), were the system was installed in 2006 first one in the decorative paper printing market worldwide. Presently, the company deploys this state-of-the-art technology globally.
