Coming Soon: Launch of Breakthrough Digital Printing Technology

A joint venture of two technology leaders, Interprint and MDC Max Daetwyler are developing a new method for digital printing that is cost-saving and compatible with gravure printing.

A partnership of two technology leaders is setting new standards for digital printing: The international décor printer Interprint GmbH, Arnsberg (Germany) and MDC Max Daetwyler AG, Bleienbach (Switzerland), founded a joint venture company at the end of May 2009 with the objective of developing and marketing a new, cost-saving digital printing method. The name of the joint venture company, as registered in Switzerland, is DI Projekt AG.

The development partnership is the result of an innovative, patented method for digital printing called LaserSonic Technology. It allows digital printing with standard gravure and flexographic inks – plus special inks and metallics – on various materials like paper, foil or cardboard. Both solvent inks and water inks can be used in this printing method. In contrast to conventional digital printing technology, LaserSonic significantly reduces high ink costs and environmental pollution.

A major advantage of the LaserSonic Technology is compatibility with the conventional gravure and flexographic printing methods. The first LaserSonic printing machine will be put into operation at Interprint's headquarters in Arnsberg in the summer of 2010.

The joint venture company will be led by experienced managers, Gerhard Hochstein, who as Interprint's Chief Technology Officer is responsible for Interprint’s technological development worldwide, and Dr. René Hartmann, whose tasks as Senior Managing Director of Daetwyler AG include the advancement of strategic innovation projects. Both companies have already had good experience in previous co-operations such as the laser engraving system for gravure cylinders successfully used by Interprint and developed by Daetwyler.

MDC Max Daetwyler AG is a medium-sized family business founded in 1952 with headquarters in Bleienbach (Central Switzerland). Since 1965, MDC has consistently established itself in the industrial graphics sector and has been worldwide market leader in the development, manufacturing and sales of prepress systems for packaging and illustration gravure printing since the mid-nineties. Since 2007, MDC has also developed into a competent industrial service provider on the basis of its graphic know-how. The MDC Group is represented by independent factories and sales organisations in important international markets such as the USA, China and Europe.

The Interprint Group, founded in 1969 with headquarters in Arnsberg, is one of the worldwide leading décor printers. Interprint’s designs decorate surfaces of furniture and flooring and derived timber products for interior furnishing. Interprint has six production locations around the world plus a sales and customer service office in Italy. Interprint is also represented by sales agents on all continents. The Interprint Group prints on a total of 24 production machines with a total capacity of 119,000 tons and has more than 860 employees.
